  • According to the visa, Fred Webb was a married Englishman of forty-six years, and who worked as a mining engineer.

Batavian Oil Company Agreement

  • Contract made between De Bataafsche Petroleum Maatschappij (also known as the Batavian Oil Company, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell) and Frederick T. Webb for a period of three years beginning on August 19, 1908 to drill for oil in Borneo.

Of all the innovations to come from Lambton County, the Canadian pole-tool drilling method possibly had the largest impact in oil fields around the world. The Canadian pole-tool drilling method was based upon a beautifully simple design.

Two curved metal blades held together in the centre by an ivory handle. Each blade is covered with leather, dark blue cloth, and rows of coloured beads and shells.
