Oil Rig, Persia (Iran)

Description

  • A steel oil derrick on top of a ridge in the desert, with an International Driller standing on the derrick. 
  • A steam boiler is visible to the left of the derrick which provides power to the drilling mechanism. 
  • Two tents provide shade for the workers in the hot desert climate. 
  • The derrick is identified as "Daldari No. 2". 

Background Information

  • Part of a photograph collection belonging to Ernest Kells who worked in Persia (modern Iran) in the 1920s.
