Work Report, September-October 1899
Description
- Work report covering the months of September and October, 1899 and detailing each day's activities, written by Robert Rawlings.
- From September 1st to 20th, it appears that drilling work was stopped, first due to the labourers being on strike, then Rawlings being sick, and the water supply failing.
- Once the repairs had been carried out, the drilling continued on September 21st, at a depth of 183 feet.
- Work appears to diminish at the end of October. The last entry reads "Not sufficient coolies to run rig(?)" suggesting that there was a shortage of labour.
Background Information
- Part of a collection of mementoes belonging to Robert Rawlings who drilled in Sumatra on two contracts between 1880 and 1902.
