Yenangyaung Oil Field, Myanmar
Description
- Ten oil derricks are packed closely together in the Yenangyaung Oil Field in Burma (modern Myanmar).
- Some derricks have cylindrical, steel storage tanks.
- Front, centre shows a steam boiler, identifiable by the tall stacks, which would be used to power the drilling rigs.
- To the right, a large wooden wheel is attached to a walking beam above. The wheel will provide the up-and-down motion to the walking beam when drilling for oil.
Background Information
- Many International Drillers worked at the Yenangyaung Oil Field in Burma (modern Myanmar), including William Gillespie, and Arthur Brown who played a role in destroying the field during the Second World War.
