Yenangyaung Oil Field, Myanmar

Description

Ten oil derricks are packed closely together in the Yenangyaung Oil Field in Burma (modern Myanmar).

Some derricks have cylindrical, steel storage tanks.

Front, centre shows a steam boiler, identifiable by the tall stacks, which would be used to power the drilling rigs.

To the right, a large wooden wheel is attached to a walking beam above. The wheel will provide the up-and-down motion to the walking beam when drilling for oil.

Informations d'arrière-plan

Many International Drillers worked at the Yenangyaung Oil Field in Burma (modern Myanmar), including William Gillespie, and Arthur Brown who played a role in destroying the field during the Second World War.
