Knife and Sheath

Description

  • Brown leather sheath with tooled leather and decoratively stitched. 
  • Sheath has rows of braided green leather which adorn the top pocket, and a leather fringe at the bottom end. 
  • Two leather loops on the back to attach to a belt. 
  • The metal blade has one cutting edge and a quillon below the handle. 
  • The handle is made of molded metal to look like bark. 

Background Information

  • Knife and sheath were given to Albert Huggard by the natives of Madagascar while he was there on an oil exploration trip. 
  • Huggard died in 1914 when his group was poisoned during a dinner.
