Walking Stick
Description
- Walking stick or cane made of bamboo with metal at the bottom end.
- Top of the cane has a bulbous formation with circles carved in it.
- The shaft of the cane is decorated with monkeys and a snake which wraps around the shaft.
- The design has been carved and then painted.
- There are Japanese characters at the bottom of the design, probably naming the artist.
Background Information
- Purchased as a memento by Robert Rawlings who drilled in Sumatra on two contracts between 1880 and 1902.
