Description

  • Known as the "Lesser Black Bird-Eating Spider". 
  • Caught in the oil fields of the Tropical Oil Company near El Centro, Colombia in 1936. 
  • The spider has eight long legs and two short teeth at the front used to inject venom. 
  • The spider is mounted on a matchbox with a pin through its abdomen. 
  • Box is made of wood and fronted with glass.

Background Information

  • From the collection of  John Braybrook, oil driller in Colombia from 1930 to 1943.
