Stirrup-Spout Bottle
Description
- Clay bottle
- Spout shape resembles a riding saddle stirrup, giving the object its name.
- Mottled dark brown and black in colour which is the result of the vessel being fired at a low temperature and unevenly exposed to air.
- Decorated with a low-relief, radiating pattern.
History of Use
- This type of vessel was used by Peruvians either to carry water or for ritual use.
Background Information
- Purchased as a memento by Charles Wallen in Peru.
