Stirrup-Spout Bottle

Description

  • Clay bottle
  • Spout shape resembles a riding saddle stirrup, giving the object its name.
  • Mottled dark brown and black in colour which is the result of the vessel being fired at a low temperature and unevenly exposed to air.
  • Decorated with a low-relief, radiating pattern.

History of Use

  • This type of vessel was used by Peruvians either to carry water or for ritual use.
