Retention Fund Statement
Description
Statement of credits made into a retention fund in an account with the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, Limited, by Ernest Kells.
The statement covers from May until December, 1929. At the end of the year, Kells had accumulated 50 pounds, 17 shillings, and 6 pence.
Background Information
International Driller Ernest Kells worked in Persia (modern Iran) from 1922 until 1931.
Each month of a contract, a certain percentage of the employee's salary was retained and returned to him with interest at the end of the contract. If, however, the driller broke his contract, he would lose this money. See Kells' Drilling Contract, Paragraph Three.
