Description

  • Dozens of oil derricks fill the landscape of the Yenangyaung oil field in Burma (modern Myanmar). 
  • Several workers walk throughout the picture, and a large group is gathered in the centre, left-hand corner amidst a pile of casing. 
  • A bridge leads across a low point in the field. 
  • Several steam boilers with tall stacks, and cylindrical storage tanks are visible next to the derricks. 

Background Information

  • Many International Drillers worked at the Yenangyaung Oil Field in Burma (modern Myanmar), including William Gillespie, and Arthur Brown who played a role in destroying the field during the Second World War.
