- International Driller Ernest Kells worked in Persia (modern Iran) from 1922 until 1931.
- Another driller, Eldon Fournie, was meant to receive his immunization on board a ship to South America, but was so sceptical of the doctor that he threw the vials overboard and decided he would rather risk getting a tropical disease than place himself in the hands of the doctor.
