Description
- Two clear, glass bottles with cork stoppers filled with volcanic ash from the Mount Pelée eruption on Martinique, in the West Indies (modern Caribbean).
Informations d'arrière-plan
- On May 8, 1902, Mount Pelée erupted with a roar and wiped out the whole town of St. Pierre which had a population of 30,000. There was only one survivor, a prisoner in an underground dungeon. After four days, he was discovered by two men walking through the ruins.
- Charles Wallen was present on Martinique at the time of the eruption and collected this ash.
