L'artefact
Putting Rig Ashore
Description
- Two men stand on the shore to receive two other men steering a raft. Large ships are anchored in the distance.
Informations d'arrière-plan
- Part of a photographic collection belonging to George Rawlings who drilled for oil in Africa and South America from 1910 to 1932.
- Much of the equipment used in Equador had to be shipped in pieces, in crates. These crates were lowered from the large ships onto rafts which would haul them onto shore. The equipment could then be transported by donkey to the oil fields. Listen to Stewart Rawlings recount the story here.
