Hammered Silver Assuit (Shawl)

Description

Shawl of white netting with a geometric design of individual pieces of hammered silver.
This type of piece, a cotton or linen mesh decorated with metal, is called an assuit after Asyut where it is made.
Centre design is of three large diamonds with four smaller diamonds. Two bands of a chevron pattern border the sides of the centre pattern and two bands of zigzags finish off the piece at either end.
