Stirrup-Spout Bottle
Description
- Orangeware vessel with yellowish-cream and red slip decoration.
- Moulded vessel is in the shape of a monkey with a hat, crouched onto its side and leaning on an urn.
- Spout shape resembles a riding saddle stirrup, giving the object its name.
- Two-toned red and white colouration is typical of Moche pottery, a northern coastal Peruvian culture.
- This type of earthenware vessel is given the name of "Huaco" in Peru.
- Made by the Indigenous peoples of Peru.
