Cendres volcaniques

Description

Deux bouteilles transparentes en verre avec bouchon de liège rempli de cendres volcaniques provenant de l’éruption de la Montagne Pelée dans les Antilles (Caraïbes modernes).

Background Information

Le 8 mai 1902, la Montagne Pelée fit éruption avec un grand vrombissement et anéantit toute la ville de Saint-Pierre, qui comptait 30 000 habitants. Il n’y eut qu’un seul survivant, un prisonnier dans un cachot souterrain. Il fut découvert quatre jours plus tard, par deux hommes marchant dans les ruines. Charles Wallen se trouvait en Martinique au moment de l’éruption et il recueillit ces cendres.
