Fishing Spear

Description

  • Metal spearhead with a single barb on the end, and a second smaller barb about 1.5 inches down. 
  • The spearhead is tied to a wooden shaft with string. 
  • The string surrounding the spear head is covered in fi mi tikah, a special wax that would prevent the string from falling apart and getting wet as it sliced through the water. 

Background Information

  • Used for fishing by the British Guiana (modern Guyana) and tribes of the tributaries of the Amazon River, in South America.
