African "Assegai" Spears
Description
Collection of four spears of various lengths. The function of each spear varies depending on the length of the shaft, the weight of the point, and the location of the grip.
Each spear consists of a metal spear head and a wooden shaft. The spears appear to be mid-length and were likely used for throwing.
The spears range in length from four feet to over seven feet.
Background Information
The assegai was the most common weapon in Africa. Zulu warriors were famous for their use of this weapon which was also known as the iklwa or ixwa for the sound produced them the spear was pulled out of a victim's wound.
