National Rig
Description
- Engine and mechanical equipment inside a National rig in South America
- The equipment is used to run the drawworks of the rig.
- The engine weighed 10 tonnes and had no starter.
- In order to start up the engine, oil was poured into the four fuel petcocks (light-coloured tubes). A worker would wrap a rope around the large wheel and attach one end to the back of a nearby car. The car would take off, pulling the rope and spinning the wheel which would fire up the engine.
