Sawfish Rostrum

Description

 

  • Muzzle of a common sawfish found in subtropical waters.
  • The muzzel is cream on one side and gray on the other with 56 teeth on the two long edges.

Background Information

  • Reported as a souvenir by Nobel Ward who was a driller in Trinidad in the 1920s and 1930s.

  • The snout of a sawfish. It is ivory in colour and has a row of pointed teeth along the top and bottom edges. A piece of string is tied between the fourth top tooth and the fourth bottom tooth. The left end is curved and the right is right.
  • A section of the sawfish. It is brown and has rows of sharp teeth on the upper and lower edges.
  • The end of a sawfish snout where it was cut on the sawfish. It is brown and the cartilage and holes for the nerve are visible. The left and right edges have teeth.
