Headhunters Axe

Description

  • Southeast Asian headhunter's axe with a short, wide blade, and a wooden handle.
  • The wooden handle has holes at the end where tufts of hair are added, each representing a victim.
  • The portion of the handle located near the blade is decorated with red braided strings.

Background Information

  • Brought back from North Borneo, Java, or Assam oil fields by Thomas A. Collins who worked there. 
  • Axe is possibly associated with the Naga tribe of Assam.
