Assembling A Bulldozer

Description

  • Holt bulldozer in the process of being assembled by local labourers and International Drillers. 
  • The heavy parts of the bulldozer are lifted into place by a rope strung over a wooden tripod. 

Background Information

  • Part of a photographic collection belonging to George Rawlings who drilled for oil in Africa and South America from 1910 to 1932.  
  • Bulldozers were shipped in pieces in crates which had to be brought to shore on rafts, and carried over the hills by donkeys.
