Artifact

Quiver

Description

  • Quiver is made from slender reeds that are woven together to make a long basket. The outside of the basket is encased in a black rubber from the bully tree which is native to the Northern Amazon. The bark of the tree is nicked by a machete and a natural rubber, called balata, is extracted.
  • A second, smaller basket is attached to the main quiver, and is full of native cotton.
  • The cotton is placed on the ends of the darts so that they can be pushed through a blow gun.
