Protection Stick

Description

  • L-shaped protection stick or club, carried for protection against animals or enemies. 
  • The stick is lightweight, carved out of wood. 
  • Handle is a wider, smooth piece of wood with twine wrapped at one end. 
  • Club end is made with a hollowed piece of wood, wrapped in strips of wood. 
  • A stone could be placed in the hollow bottom and thrown at an enemy. 

Background Information

  • Purchased as a memento by Robert Rawlings who drilled in Sumatra on two contracts between 1880 and 1902.
