A Petrolea Driller and Hunter at Sumatra

Description

  • Postcard showing International Driller William McRae and several local men and children holding rifles and standing beside a dead elephant which has its trunk cut off.
  • Typed message on the back of the postcard reads: "Dear Fred: - Dottie has just arrived with a brand new line of snake stories. Am down in Shelbourne have charge of three drilling rigs for a time and expect to bring in dusters. Mac."
  • Addressed to F.W. Webb Esq., c/o/ Anglo-Saxon Oil Co. Miara. Sarawak. Borneo."

Background Information

  • William McRae drilled in the Dutch East Indies for 25 years, returning in 1915.
