Description

  • A steel oil derrick stands in the barren landscape of Mesopotamia (modern Iraq).
  • Dark cloth has been draped over the base of the derrick to offer shade for the workers inside. 
  • The same derrick can be seen shooting oil in this photograph

Background Information

  • Part of a photograph collection belonging to Ernest Kells who worked in Persia (modern Iran) in the 1920s.
