Floating Bungalow in Borneo

Description

  • Three International Drillers, dressed in white suits, are gathered on the verandah of a bungalow. A staff of local Indonesians stands under the overhang. 
  • The bungalow was built to float at the edge of the river. Residents used boats for transportation. 

Background Information

  • Part of a photograph collection belonging to Robert Rawlings, who drilled for oil in Sumatra from 1890 until 1902.
