Chinese Water-Pipe
Description
Brass Chinese water-pipe
Consists of a rectangular, decorated water container, a draw tube from which the user would suck the smoke, and a hinged tobacco container.
Also includes a pair of tweezers and a small whisk.
Front of the water container is inscribed with a scene of fruit and flowers.
Back and sides of the water container are inscribed with Chinese songs and prayers.
Background Information
Purchased as a memento by William McRae on his return from drilling in Java (Indonesia) around 1915.
